Pretty D'Oyley for Salver
Designed by: Miss Ronaldson
Pattern XXV from Lady's Book of Useful and Ornamental Crochet work
For more about Miss Ronaldson and her patterns, see Antique Crochet.
Inher original pattern, Ms. Ronaldson said "make 9 doubles over the 10" at row 12. This can be interpreted
three ways; skip the first dc, skip the last dc, make the stitches between the dc's. Charts do not have
such ambiguities, so the chartmaker must make a definite choice, as illustrated below.
Notes: Double and longer stitches begin with draw through one loop before working off pairs
Bold chs indicate sts made into them, not over
Row 1: 24 dc into foundation
Row 12: begins decreasing dc's added to block; this variant skips the first dc of the block; 5ch between blocks
Row13 ff:, dc placed into 3rd ch of 5ch
Row24: not clear in original if sc or dc meant, assume sc
When you interpret Row 12 and following to skip the last dc of each block instead of the first, you get this graph:
If instead, you skip the first dc of each block, you get the following:
